Abstract:
Diamond is an allotrope of carbon in which the atoms are arranged in a specific configuration of the cubic lattice, called the diamond lattice. Though diamond is considered to be an insulator, they can also be considered as wide bandgap semiconductors (Eg = 5.47 eV) and also possess a high breakdown field (10MV/cm). Such unique properties could find applications in high temperature environments, like jet engines. In this comprehensive literature review, we review different ways to reduce their contact resistance, a measure of flow of current between the metal-semiconductor interface.
