Abstract:
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) has grown up from its research stage to the fabrication of a wide range of commercial functional applications. Metal AM is now popular in industries to build and repair various components. This project focuses on pipeline failure that results in increased maintenance budgets, overtime hours for service personnel due to poor mechanical and corrosion performance of wrought SS 316L. Selective Laser Melting (SLM) printed SS 316L could be the potential improvement for its quicker turnaround time and better mechanical and corrosion performance. In this project, standard pressure and mechanical testing is considered to quantify the mechanical properties of 3D printed parts under corrosive and non-corrosive environments.
