Abstract:
The temperature control technology based on phase change material (PCM) demonstrates excellent performance in the field of battery thermal management system (BTMS). The present study aims at optimizing Li-ion BTMS using composite phase change materials (CPCM). The study involves making a CPCM from a combination of fatty acids. Then two separate sample battery modules are considered for the purpose of the study; one without any CPCM and the other with CPCM filled in between the cells. A thorough analysis would carried out by charging & discharging both the battery modules. The temperature of both the battery modules & temperature difference between cells in a module would be taken into consideration for analysis. It is expected that the battery module with CPCM filled in between the cells would performed well in terms of energy density, charge density & working temperature as compared with that of the battery module without CPCM.
